And we continue....... We LOVE it!

Genre - Rock / Indie / Alternative

Sounds like - the product of five guys writing music in a musty damp room!
Q1, Who are you where are you from?
Jonny: Kick Box Riot from sunny South Wales.
Q2, What’s your myspace page called? What do you think myspace has to offer bands artists? How many friends have you got (it is a competition you know!) and how many are actual friends?
Jonny: I think myspace offers a huge amount to bands in that they can get there music heard by pretty much anyone in the world at the click of a button. I think we have around 8 thousand friends. There are about 13 of those people are actually friends.
Mike: We’ve hit double figures
Q3, Have you got a website too (you can blatantly plug it), what’s it got on it and is it worth a visit? Jonny: We only have a myspace. There isn’t really a need for a website too.
Mike: Any other important online stuff we have is linked on our myspace anyway.
Q4, If you had to pick a musical genre in which to pigeon hole yourself which one would you go for?
Mike: Whatever someone decides to call us, free form jazz hopefully.
Q5, What is you favourite song you’ve written why? What song would you have love to have written?
Jonny: Favourite would have to be a new song we have called “Don’t Scream”. You always think your newest songs are the best ones though, I think everyone does. I would have loved to have written “Born to Run” by Bruce Springsteen. The Boss.
Mike: I would agree with both of those, I would love to have written ‘Jesus Christ’ By Brand New as well, it’s such a good song.
Q6, Do you do gigs? If so how would you describe your live experience? What’s your favourite gig and which one would you like to forget?
Jonny: We do play gigs. We like to play with as much energy as possible and just try to have as much fun as we can. Favourite gig would be our E.P Launch. It was on 10th March Sold out and everything went perfect. I wouldn’t want to forget any gigs, you learn a lot more from having bad gigs than good ones.
Q7, What song gets you dancing every time why?
Mike: Huey Lewis and the News – The power of Love Jonny: ZZ Top – Sharp Dressed Man. It’s got an amazing groove. Q8, What was the last CD / download you bought and was it any good?
Mike: The Bronx’s first EP which is pretty splendid, I also bought the Death From Above 1979 remix album but it hasn’t arrived yet, I’m going to go ahead and declare it my favourite album of all time though. So it’s safe to say I have overly high expectations of that CD.
Jonny: The last CD I bought was Two Gallants – Two Gallants. It is a thoroughly enjoyable listen.
Q9, What’s your view on Radiohead allowing fans to pay what they want for their new album? Do you think it’s just a marketing ploy? What would you pay for it? Is it anything you’ve considered doing?
Jonny: I don’t know really. If that’s what they want to do then that’s what they’re going to do. They’re in a situation which allows them to do that. We haven’t ever considered doing it as we are flat out broke at the moment haha. We have put some songs up for free download though.
Mike: I think their in a better position than most bands could ever hope to be in so they can pretty much do what they want, they probably made more money than they normally would through CDs, plus it went to number 1 when it came out on CD anyway. I’d pay for it personally cause I know that bands don’t tend to earn a great deal, safe to say radiohead probably have more than us however!
Q10, Why should somebody buy a copy of your single / album / download and not say a couple of pints of lager?
Jonny: Well, the cd is only £5 so you would only really be able to get 2 pints of lager anyway. They aren’t going to last long. Whereas the cd has 6 songs on it and when you’ve finished you can listen to it all over again, as much as you want. And we all really love the songs on the cd and hopefully you will too.
Q11, If you had to go to confession tomorrow what would you have to confess to and do you regret doing it?
Jonny:I didn’t brush my teeth last night.
Mike: I’d highly regret that.
Q12, What’ s your views on the reality music shows (like X Factor and Pop / American Idol) and would you ever be tempted to give them a spin to ensure more people heard your music?
Mike: I think their all a waste of time and hopefully they’ll disappear soon enough
Jonny: No I don’t think we would ever be interested in doing a reality tv show.
Q13, What’s your favourite place in the world and what does it say about you?
Jonny: My favourite place in the world is wherever my friends are. You could go anywhere in the world but without your friends with you it just wouldn’t be as good.
Q14, What’s the best and worst thing you’ve ever seen written about you?
Jonny: Kick Box Riot are complete shit! That’s a personal favourite of mine.
Mike: Anything good anyone’s said about us playing live, ‘good set man’ that’s a classic, no-ones written that down I wouldn’t imagine but a handshake usually comes with that sentence which is a bonus.
Q15, In ten words write your own press release
Jonny: Kick Box Riot from South Wales – They’re pretty good mate.

Strapline – kicking the shit out of ya

No website, no.
Q4, If you had to pick a musical genre in which to pigeon hole yourself which one would you go for?
Indie/garage.
Q5, What is you favourite song you’ve written why? What song would you have love to have written?
We all love Baby Baby very much, dont know why....
Ten storey love song, or Love spreads- the stone roses.
Q6, Do you do gigs? If so how would you describe your live experience?
What’s your favourite gig and which one would you like to forget?
Yes we do gigs.

Q8, What was the last CD / download you bought and was it any good?

Q9, What’s your view on Radiohead allowing fans to pay what they want for their new album? Do you think it’s just a marketing ploy? What would you pay for it? Is it anything you’ve considered doing?
They're rich enough to do that...I wouldn't pay for it as I'm not a radiohead fan at all. No it's not something we've considered doing, but we might do that someday, who knows?
Q10, Why should somebody buy a copy of your single / album / download and not say a couple of pints of lager?
I don’t know...They shouldn't buy a copy of it if they don't want to...In fact I don't care, I play music because I love it, and if some people don't like it, I don't give a fuck, as long as we have fun...
Q11, If you had to go to confession tomorrow what would you have to confess to and do you regret doing it?
I wouldn't go to confession.
Q12, What’ s your views on the reality music shows (like X Factor and Pop / American Idol) and would you ever be tempted to give them a spin to ensure more people heard your music?
No way, I'd never give them a spin. Those programs don't help the local bands who try to be creative...Just another easy way to get more money...

London, I love it. Lille's quite good too.
Q14, What’s the best and worst thing you’ve ever seen written about you?

Q2, What’s your myspace page called? What do you think myspace has to offer bands artists? How many friends have you got (it is a competition you know!) and how many are actual friends?
www. myspace. com/counterpointband2008
Myspace has become increasingly difficult to promote any band as there are so many artists trying to do the same but with patience and hard work and a lot of people out there to help the cause we hope we can get up there soon.
We have around 1600 friends and a lot are fellow bands and friends plus a lot of our favourite musicians we also get a lot of people just adding us for the sake of adding which were not fans of ourselves we like to keep things pure.
Q3, Have you got a website too (you can blatantly plug it), what’s it got on it and is it worth a visit?
As of yet we do not but will be working on that as soon as the album is finished! We are currently working in the studio with our producer Alan Lomer.
Q4, If you had to pick a musical genre in which to pigeon hole yourself which one would you go for?
Its hard to choose just one but I guess to cover the mix of metal rock n classic rock we shall go for (hard rock!) ha ha who cares its rockin babey.
Q5, What is you favourite song you’ve written why? What song would you have love to have written?
House of jazz (its all about the good times and it is a driving anthem) & anything by Alterbridge!
Q6, Do you do gigs? If so how would you describe your live experience? What’s your favourite gig and which one would you like to forget?
Yes we do although very minimal at the moment due to finishing school and working hard in the studio.
Our live experience is powerful and really cuts through there’s no worries with connection to the band here!
Favourite gig would be guitar hero before we started up we playing the original live show which is still going!! (check out September 6th 2008 for the live guitar hero!!!)
Not gonna forget any gigs, they’re all special!
Q7, What song gets you dancing every time why?
Ha ha dunno about dancin but if ya say mooshin that’s a different story haha (ties that bind - Alter Bridge).
Q8, What was the last CD / download you bought and was it any good?
Creed best hits (a lot of great stuff a lot of shite stuff but hell its creed! millions of albums sold cant be bad :D).
Q9, What’s your view on Radiohead allowing fans to pay what they want for their new album? Do you think it’s just a marketing ploy? What would you pay for it? Is it anything you’ve considered doing?
Only something we heard a lil about. We laughed at 1st I guess because we knew a lot of people who put down 1p for it but we understand the concept as (James) had taken business studies and is way to cool for everyone else. I think this would be a good idea when we have sold as many albums as they have! You never know.
Q10, Why should somebody buy a copy of your single / album / download and not say a couple of pints of lager?
If you live for music you will learn that playing our music will get you beers for free from all ya mates!
Q11, If you had to go to confession tomorrow what would you have to confess to and do you regret doing it?
We broke into Joe’s caravan while he was at a family meal, climbed through the vent and left the door wide open.
We are sorry Joe but it was funny as fuck!
Q12, What’ s your views on the reality music shows (like X Factor and Pop / American Idol) and would you ever be tempted to give them a spin to ensure more people heard your music?
Someone once told me (James) that entering something like eurovision would be a sure-fire way to end your career before you start it LOL. We think the shows are a good laugh but how many people really benefit from the show.
Q13, What’s your favourite place in the world and what does it say about you?
Joe’s caravan, a lot of funny nights, poker sessions, breaking in when Joe’s away, its a simple life with simply music with cheap guitars. In contrast to the thousands we have invested in guitars and other musical needs for the band.
Q14, What’s the best and worst thing you’ve ever seen written about you?
We have a cover of archetype by fear factory as a basic demo while we are recording our album. We were told that it was not ours and uploaded off fear factory’s site (in actual fact it was a complete cover including a guitar solo duelled at the end) all rights to the song go to Fear Factory and we have no intentions of profit from them.

The Parish Music Box
Genre - Lounge / Acoustic / Country
Strapline – what of us, if friendship shuts its eyes?
Influences – Lambchop, Tindersticks, Kinks, Smiths, Crispin Hunt, Jayjawks, Richard Hawley, Travis, The Bluetones and great bands of all kinds.
Sounds like – n/a
The first part of this is from our standard myspace mail we send out to our ‘friends’, it’s not actually supposed to be answered but hell why not!
a, Who actually looks at their MySpace page!
Do you mean who looks at their own page? Or who looks at ours?
We check ours every day and EVERY email that comes in gets a personal answer from the band....that’s how we have built our fan base, got our record deal, played sold out shows....oh and a severe case of repetitive strain injury!
Basically the people, who like our stuff, seem to like the personal touch.
b, Who will actually be bothered to spend their time responding to messages posted on their MySpace page.
We respond to EVERY message!
c, Who will answer the questions honestly
The truth will out....no point telling porkies....
d, How will the responses differ
Let’s see....
Q1, Who are you where are you from?
We are 6 guys from west
Q2, What’s your MySpace page called? What do you think MySpace has to offer bands artists? How many friends have you got (it is a competition you know!) and how many are actual friends?
www.myspace.com/theparishmusicbox - I saw it described as like meeting people down the pub...we have built a pretty substantial fan base using the site...plus our record label (Universal) found us here...if we had been playing the local music circuit and sending out demo's we would never have got a look in...So it’s a pretty democratic medium...although once you get to a certain size reaching all your fans gets harder...
Friends or fans? We don't know every one of our 33,000 friends by name, what band could? They are fans and some are friends....I think our records sold supports that theory.
Q3, Have you got a website too (you can blatantly plug it), what’s it got on it and is it worth a visit?
No...We are a MySpace phenomenon....! Chuckle!
Q4, If you had to pick a musical genre in which to pigeon hole yourself which one would you go for?
Acoustic Lounge, Alt Lounge, Chamber Pop, Mellow man mellow....
Q5, what is you favourite song you’ve written why? What song would you have love to have written?
Bring it on...its about saying sorry to someone and actually meaning it...Richard Hawley’s production team worked on it with us and it seems to be the track everyone loves...its a very personal tune....I'll tell you why when we know each other better!
There are so many... Can we start again? by Tindersticks, anything by Lambchop and ooohhhhh that’s just too hard!
Q6, Do you do gigs? If so how would you describe your live experience? What’s your favourite gig and which one would you like to forget?
Favourite - recent sell out show at The Soho revue Bar...all word of mouth. It was rammed...and I got to wear a new suit! Emotive, fun…think The Smiths meet Tony Christie….
Worst -
Tindersticks at Royal Festival Hall was great……
Too polite to slag anyone’s gogs off…although I was forced to go and see Elton with my gran once….’nuff said.
Q7, What song gets you dancing every time why?
Wonderful world….slowly!
Q8, What was the last CD / download you bought and was it any good?
Richard Hawley - Lady's Bridge. Not my favourite but by his and any standard, a great album.
Q9, What’s your view on Radiohead allowing fans to pay what they want for their new album? Do you think it’s just a marketing ploy? What would you pay for it? Is it anything you’ve considered doing?
I think that people see music as ubiquitous and freely available...so they have stopped seeing the intrinsic value, especially as there is no tangible physical product like a CD to touch, feel and covet in iTunes world. So I guess the emotional attachment to music as a physical thing is diminished. It's cheap or free and easy so you wouldn’t covet it like a CD or an LP would you?
You'll never get an MP3 out in 20 years and touch it, look at it and be transported back to when you heard it first or hear it in your head without actually playing it like you would with an LP or CD.
And if you don’t need to be forced to buy an album by the format, download what you like and ignore the rest...it pushes the quality bar higher for bands...you need a great album now, not 3 or 4 great songs plus filler...
It’s good for the live scene, that’s where bands make a living now. It raises the bar competitively.
I'll let Thom have a copy of our album in exchange for his anytime...
Q10, Why should somebody buy a copy of your single / album / download and not say a couple of pints of lager?
A pint is a transitory pleasure...our album is something you can use to take you somewhere else for ever more...that said we give our music away...its about getting a body of work that people like out there and heard...
Q11, If you had to go to confession tomorrow what would you have to confess to and do you regret doing it?
My obsession with questionnaires...nope!
Q12, What’ s your views on the reality music shows (like X Factor and Pop / American Idol) and would you ever be tempted to give them a spin to ensure more people heard your music?
I was shortlisted for one in 2003...I went for the call back but as I sat there thought, "I don’t want to do this" and left...
I hate them...they turn up the odd find...on the whole I think they are cruel and manipulative...
Q13, What’s your favourite place in the world and what does it say about you?
I like it fine just here...and on stage...
A homely show off?
Q14, What’s the best and worst thing you’ve ever seen written about you?
Best - "sublime songwriting" in The Times in 2004.
Worst - "has a touch of the Robbie Williams about him".
Q15, In ten words write your own press release (swearing is definitely allowed!)…
Like drifting on a sea of melodic, moody and melancholy bliss. The Fuckers!

Q1, Who are you where are you from?
We're DeltaSound, and we're from various parts of the north east of
Q2, What’s your myspace page called? What do you think myspace has to offer bands artists? How many friends have you got (it is a competition you know!) and how many are actual friends?
Our page doesn't really have a name other than Deltasound. I think myspace offers us the chance to get our music to people who might not hear it normally, at the same time it gives us the chance to force our music on people who couldn't give a shit about it. We have just over 20000 friends; I don't know how many are actual friends or fans or people spamming us. I'd say we added possibly 10% of them and the rest added us.
Q3, Have you got a website too (you can blatantly plug it), what’s it got on it and is it worth a visit?
Our official site is at http://www.delta-sound.co.uk / and you should definitely check it out as our first EP is available for free download there. There's also a very nice little flash introduction.
Q4, If you had to pick a musical genre in which to pigeon hole yourself which one would you go for?
We're alternative, which is a general term which pretty much everyone uses but we're not rock enough to be rock, indie enough to be indie or dance enough to be dance. The mid point of those three I would guess.
Q5, What is you favourite song you’ve written why? What song would you have love to have written?
Personally I think 'Angel From Heaven' is the best song in our set, the reason is clear to see every time we play it live. Even the snobby barman who resents having to put up with unsigned bands every night gets blown away by that one.
I don't wish I'd written anyone else's songs, the songs we write are exactly the songs we want to write!
Q6, Do you do gigs? If so how would you describe your live experience? What’s your favourite gig and which one would you like to forget?
We play live fairly regularly and on enjoy every second of it. We play all over the country now and are planning a full
Probably my favourite gig (I don't know about the other three) was one we played at Fishfood in
Q7, What song gets you dancing every time why?
Any of our songs. Go and check us out at youtube. com/user/ukdeltasound
Q8, What was the last CD / download you bought and was it any good?
I got the latest Spiritualized album 'Songs In A+E'.
And it's very, very good indeed.
Q9, What’s your view on Radiohead allowing fans to pay what they want for their new album? Do you think it’s just a marketing ploy? What would you pay for it? Is it anything you’ve considered doing?
Yes I think it's just a marketing ploy, one which only a band of their size and stature can afford to pull off. Let's not forget how Radiohead got to where they are today - they were signed to EMI for years and years. I'm glad that bands can work outside of record companies now, but I'm not sure what message Radiohead were sending out to music lovers with what they done. Our music's free so everyone else's should be too? I don't agree with that. Not unless Thom Yorke wants to pay my rent for the next 10 years.
Q10, Why should somebody buy a copy of your single / album / download and not say a couple of pints of lager?
Our latest EP is £2 at play. com so you wouldn't even get a pint. I think Tom Robinson (BBC6Music) summed it up perfectly when he said we had 'tight punchy arrangements and irresistibly catchy choruses'.
Q11, If you had to go to confession tomorrow what would you have to confess to and do you regret doing it?
I'd have to confess to nothing, I only answer to myself thank you very much.
Q12, What’ s your views on the reality music shows (like X Factor and Pop / American Idol) and would you ever be tempted to give them a spin to ensure more people heard your music?
These shows aren't about music - they're about money - and I'd rather eat my own shit than appear on one of them.
Q13, What’s your favourite place in the world and what does it say about you?
My favourite place in the world is the City of
Q14, What’s the best and worst thing you’ve ever seen written about you?
We've had lots of good things and a few bad things said about us but I'd rather people make their own minds up. I know because I sometimes write about music myself - you need to listen to something to get it, not read what someone else thinks of it.
15, In ten words write your own press release (swearing is definitely allowed!)…

Q7, What song gets you dancing every time why?
Arcarsenal by At the Drive-in. It's incredible.
Q8, What was the last CD / download you bought and was it any good?
I bought John Vanderslice -
Q9, What’s your view on Radiohead allowing fans to pay what they want for their new album? Do you think it’s just a marketing ploy? What would you pay for it? Is it anything you’ve considered doing?
I planned to download it for free then buy the vinyl release but I didn't do either. Oops. Is it a marketing ploy? Who cares.
Q10, Why should somebody buy a copy of your single / album / download and not say a couple of pints of lager?
Because they've had enough.
Q11, If you had to go to confession tomorrow what would you have to confess to and do you regret doing it?
I drank gin and lemonade. And liked it. I'm sorry.
Q12, What’ s your views on the reality music shows (like X Factor and Pop / American Idol) and would you ever be tempted to give them a spin to ensure more people heard your music?
I think some people don't have time or even want to hunt around for music so they need to be told what to listen to. These shows are for them. Here, you listen to this. That's fine. And no I cannot sing so no.
Q13, What’s your favourite place in the world and what does it say about you?
I went to Hvar last year...that was pretty amazing. I think it means I like winding roads and marble streets.

Daniel Land & The Modern Painters
Genre - Alternative / Indie / Shoegaze
Strapline – Art is a verb
Influences – The landscape of Devon, the paintings of Katy Barrell, rainy Saturday mornings, Mark Kozelek, The Smiths, Emma Reimers, Mantos Breakfast Club, Sway, Scott Walker, the paintings of Mark Rothko and Agnes Martin, driving around Exmoor with my father, the novels of Milan Kundera and Edmund White, Jane Siberry, the ethos of Bella Union, Gill Pinnington, James, Doniford Bay (in Somerset), Mojave 3, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Cocteau Twins, the clubs in Manchester’s Canal Street, winter walks on deserted beaches, glamorous one night stands, comfortable silences, the corrupting influence of academic theory.
Sounds like – Inexpressibly lovely
Q1, Who are you and where are you from?
We are Daniel Land & The Modern Painters and we're from all over the country - we have an Englishman, an Irishman, a Scotsman, A Welshman, and two Mancunians in the band.
Q2, What’s your myspace page called? What do you think myspace has to offer bands artists? How many friends have you got (it is a competition you know!) and how many are actual friends?
Myspace allows musisicans to reach out to audiences across the world in a way that would have been inconceivable 15 years ago. We have 3500 and most of them are interested in shoegaze and generally in us. Our page is www.myspace.com/danielland
Q3, Have you got a website too (you can blatantly plug it), what’s it got on it and is it worth a visit?
Nope, Myspace is it for us and we like it that way. But if we're allowed to plug things, check this band out: http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8vd3d3LmF1YnVybmx1bGwuY29t
Q4, If you had to pick a musical genre in which to pigeon hole yourself which one would you go for?
Intelligent indie.
Q5, What is you favourite song you’ve written why? What song would you have love to have written?
My favourite song I have written is called "Starfish Fucking" purely because it manages to be simultaneously musically beautiful and lyrically pornographic. My favourite love song is The Blue Nile's "Downtown Lights".
Q6, Do you do gigs? If so how would you describe your live experince? What’s your favourite gig and which one would you like to forget?
Yes, we gig all the time. Playing live, when it's good, can be transcendent - like the Sonic Cathedral gig we did with Ulrich Schnauss, or the gig we played in Exeter recently. Other times I'd pretty much describe our gigs as 30 minutes of panicking and trying to hit the right notes, find the right guitar pedal with my feet, or playing to two people like we did in
Q7, What song gets you dancing every time why?
"Love Shack" always gets me dancing. It's the daftest but most intelligently constructed pop song I know.
Q8, What was the last CD / download you bought and was it any good?
I bought the new album by The Daysleepers. Nice enough, but I probably won't be playing it a lot more.
Q9, What’s your view on Radiohead allowing fans to pay what they want for their new album? Do you think it’s just a marketing ploy? What would you pay for it? Is it anything you’ve considered doing?
Let's suppose for one moment that it is a marketing ploy, and they're doing it purely for the publicity and for the kudos it brings them. So what? Does that actually devalue the music at all, or does it actually enhance it? The fact is, it's a great album. I don't like this kind of semi-controversial, pseudo-intellectual debate that's sprung up about it - it's a conversation that ignores the music altogether.
The other thing about it is this: Radiohead were not actually doing anything particularly new or radical by letting people pay what they want for it. There's already a long history of people doing that - one of whom is Jane Siberry/Issa, who has been allowing fans to pay what they want for her music for several years now. The only thing that's different is that someone "bigger" has done it; as far as I'm concerned, the cultural conversation about this is old hat now.
The fact is that, unless you're Coldplay, it's very difficult to make money from music now. True music fans want to pay more for records because they know that artists won't be able to survive otherwise.
It's a way of thinking that everyone should share. The underlying issue here is that people always want a freebie - that's fine if, say, the checkout girl at Asda forgets to run a loaf of bread through the till and you get it free - one up on the establishment. Those multinational businesses have huge profits that can accomodate these things. But to demand for free some music that might only sell 5000 copies anyway, when the poor bastard that wrote it has to work nights at Tescos just to pay the bills, that's just wrong.
Q10, Why should somebody buy a copy of your single / album / download and not say a couple of pints of lager?
Well, I think they should buy the lager first, and when they descend into alcoholism and substance abuse, if they need something to get them through those long dark nights of the soul, they should start buying our records.
Ha ha.
No seriously - lager will pass through your system in hours and will leave you feeling rough the day after; our music will stay in you forever and will make you feel much, much better.
There's, that's a much better answer.
Q11, If you had to go to confession tomorrow what would you have to confess to and do you regret doing it?
I would confess my regrets more than anything else - those things you can never get around, like not seeing my grandfather for two years before he suddenly died, losing touch with people who I was once very close to, and so on.
Q12, What’ s your views on the reality music shows (like X Factor and Pop / American Idol) and would you ever be tempted to give them a spin to ensure more people heard your music?
Not in a million years. It's an interesting phenomenon; and it's depressing to know that so many people are content with music that is that bland. But then, if everyone made Intelligent Indie, there'd be less room for us to have a career.
Q13, What’s your favourite place in the world and what does it say about you?
My favourite place in the world is a stream that falls off a clifftop onto a rocky beach, making a little waterfall, about a mile up the coast from somewhere my family had a holiday retreat in
Q14, What’s the best and worst thing you’ve ever seen written about you?
Most of the things that have been written about our music have been very measured and gracious and non judgemental - I get the feeling that people liked it but weren't willing to commit wholeheartedly in public, maybe in case this expected return of shoegaze/dream-pop as a major genre didn't happen. It has now happened, so I expect it's open season now - we'll be equally lauded and torn apart by savage critics. Ho hum.

Q2, What’s your myspace page called? What do you think myspace has to offer bands artists? How many friends have you got (it is a competition you know!) and how many are actual friends?
www.myspace.com/CensoredVille - we called it this as its our band 'censored' and a Ville which is the myspace community. So each and everyone of our friends is part of the Ville. We then register them in our Master System of online activity.
Its a good place for bands as its a way of connecting with a number of people. Some people tend to chat and some tend just to listen to the music. Thats both sound with us. We have quite a few friends something like 20000 who we have picked up over the last year through gigging and hard work. I'd like to think at least 19999 are my actual friends.

Q9, What’s your view on Radiohead allowing fans to pay what they want for their new album? Do you think it’s just a marketing ploy? What would you pay for it? Is it anything you’ve considered doing?
Personally I haven't, but our bass player Chris O is well into Radiohead. Its a quality marketing ploy. It was all over everything, front pages...back pages...middle pages!

Q3, Have you got a website too (you can blatantly plug it), what’s it got on it and is it worth a visit?
The blatant plugging of other websites is extremely crass and beneath me. That said if you would like to buy our cd please go to myspace.com/popsmearofficial. It's limited to 1000 copies and will be worth a fortune on ebay one day.

Dragons is the one I'm most proud of. The one I would have loved to have written - and I know this is a typical answer - is God Only Knows.
Q6, Do you do gigs? If so how would you describe your live experience? What’s your favourite gig and which one would you like to forget?
Our first gig will be at the Annex in NYC on July 29. Hopefully it will not be our last.

The Safety Dance just cos it's a damn good song.

Q9, What’s your view on Radiohead allowing fans to pay what they want for their new album? Do you think it’s just a marketing ploy? What would you pay for it? Is it anything you’ve considered doing?
It's a marketing ploy and a damn good one. I would pay nothing for it as I am not a big fan of theirs and I prefer to purchase cd's. I would consider doing it once I have the financial security they have which isn't likely to happen anytime soon.
Q10, Why should somebody buy a copy of your single / album / download and not say a couple of pints of lager?
Cos our music will kill more brain cells than any lager will.
Q11, If you had to go to confession tomorrow what would you have to confess to and do you regret doing it?
When I was younger and forced to go my stock answer would be that I said the lord's name in vain and I had fought with my parents. That was always good for a few Hail Mary's and Our Father's. If I had to go to confession tomorrow I would say nothing as there is nothing to confess.
Q12, What’ s your views on the reality music shows (like X Factor and Pop / American Idol) and would you ever be tempted to give them a spin to ensure more people heard your music?

My myspace page is called www.myspace.com/thelisteners
Myspace is a great way to reach fans and promoters with your music! Since being on myspace we have had interest from many famous musicians and promoters - one of the being Mr Richard Hawley himself! We have 1938 cyber friends- cyber being the appropriate word as only about 10 of them are actually our mates!

No - ya don’t need another website when you've got myspace!

Alternative.
Q5, What is you favourite song you’ve written why? What song would you have love to have written?

Q8, What was the last CD / download you bought and was it any good?

Q9, What’s your view on Radiohead allowing fans to pay what they want for their new album? Do you think it’s just a marketing ploy? What would you pay for it? Is it anything you’ve considered doing?
I think it’s a brilliant idea, obviously a marketing ploy! But when you have that many fans you can get them to do whatever you want really! And by offering it for free it makes them feel guilty and stops them from robbing it from you in the first place! Genius! I’d pay £5 for it. We are giving away our latest e.p at our upcoming gigs completely free!
Q10, Why should somebody buy a copy of your single / album / download and not say a couple of pints of lager?
Because our music is great and will inspire people for years to come and 2 pints of lager will go down your throat into your stomach through your bladder and backout ya bellend into a pisshole somewhere you probably don’t really want to be but are to drunk to walk home!
Q11, If you had to go to confession tomorrow what would you have to confess to and do you regret doing it?
I would have to confess to nothing because I’m so pure I’m surprised the angels haven't come for me yet!
Q12, What’ s your views on the reality music shows (like X Factor and Pop / American Idol) and would you ever be tempted to give them a spin to ensure more people heard your music?

I haven’t got a favourite place in the world yet! And what that says about me is that I haven’t been to enough places.

Q1, Who are you where are you from?
My name is Ian, from The Sketch, from South East Kent,
Q2, What’s your myspace page called?
Myspace.com/thesketchmusic
What do you think myspace has to offer bands artists?
Pretty much everything, I've been in a few bands and remember the time before myspace and it was a bit like the world without mobile phones.
Myspace just makes everything easy but at the same time hard. Let me explain, Bands pretty much exist on myspace, you upload your tunes, shows, news and as such they are easily available to everyone and those people can interact with you through the site. Also gig promoters and record labels are on myspace meaning it's easy to contact them and they can immediately listen to your music and contact you.
The flip side is myspace is swamped with bands and as such it's hard to get noticed in such a big ocean.
How many friends have you got (it is a competition you know!) and how many are actual friends?
We have about 22,000 at the moment, and very few of which are our personal friends. Although I'd like to think a good percentage are actually fans.
Q3, Have you got a website too (you can blatantly plug it), what’s it got on it and is it worth a visit?
Nope, there's little point and myspace pretty much does the same job and is free!
Q4, If you had to pick a musical genre in which to pigeon hole yourself which one would you go for?
Mid 90's emo is what I would personally go for.
Q5, What is you favourite song you’ve written why?
I haven't written any songs in this band as of yet.
What song would you have love to have written?
Tough question, First that pops to mind is anything from the get up kids, I dunno Red Letter Day.
Q6, Do you do gigs?
Lots.
If so how would you describe your live experience?
Lots of energy, we try and have as much fun on stage as possible.
What’s your favourite gig and which one would you like to forget?
Favourite gig was probably the last local show on our July tour, just a small room packed with punk kids and awesome bands playing. Never had a show that was that bad yet it sticks out, but there's lots where the show hasn't been promoted and no one turned up or the sound guy isn't actually a sound guy. We try and not let it get us down though and just have a good time whatever.
Q7, What song gets you dancing every time why?
Mr Brightside by The Killers, it's just a good anthemic song.
Q8, What was the last CD / download you bought and was it any good?
Hit The Lights - Skip School Start Fights, yeah it's a nice juicy slice of good pop-punk.
Q9, What’s your view on Radiohead allowing fans to pay what they want for their new album?
I guess it's quite good, fans get to pay what they want and they get to make a bit of money off the sales. I'm not sure how it went so it's hard to say.
Do you think it’s just a marketing ploy?
We'll it got everyone talking about them so it's possible.
What would you pay for it?
I guess I'd like to listen to it first, but I'm not much of a fan really.
Is it anything you’ve considered doing?
No not to date.
Q10, Why should somebody buy a copy of your single / album / download and not say a couple of pints of lager?
Because they like it and want to support us.
Q11, If you had to go to confession tomorrow what would you have to confess to and do you regret doing it?
Q12, What’ s your views on the reality music shows (like X Factor and Pop / American Idol) and would you ever be tempted to give them a spin to ensure more people heard your music?
Hmmm, I'm not really a fan as they are just out to exploit people rather than get your music out there. I think that if you truly are talented and work hard you can get to where you want to be.
Q13, What’s your favourite place in the world and what does it say about you?
On stage playing music with my band and that's not for me to say really.
Q14, What’s the best and worst thing you’ve ever seen written about you?
I don't think I've actually seen any thing bad written about us yet although I'm sure I will at some point, not everyone is going to share our idea of good music. We've had a few good reviews but probably Kerrang comparing us to The Get Up Kids.
15, In ten words write your own press release (swearing is definitely allowed!)…
Melodic catchy songs and more hooks than an eighties horror flick.
Ok so that was 11 but 10 words isn't much!
